Beer on Tap. Oh, How I’ve Missed You

The other night the wife and I headed out for an early dinner and some drinks. We drove down PCH to one of our favorite restaurants here in Laguna Beach, La Sirena Grill. If you aren’t familiar with La Sirena, you need to introduce yourself to this great, as they call themselves, MexECO restaurant. Kelli and I absolutely love this place and are so grateful to live smack dab in the middle of two locations.

What’s even better, is one of those two locations was recently remodeled from a pick-up counter with a few tables, to a much larger pick-up counter with several tables and a bar. But not just any bar. A beer snob’s type of bar. Unfortunately for me, and subsequently my wife, this transformation took place while I was still finishing up the Fifty-Two Bottles project. So, we were doomed to pick up food while drooling over the impressive selection they had on tap.

Beer Number 37: A New Favorite

Over the course of the year, I’ve turned my tastes to different beers I’ve never tried and, subsequently, breweries I’ve never tried. A few of them have really caught my attention but there is one in particular that I’m really starting to get into. From my first taste earlier this year, to my second encounter at last week’s OC Brew Ha Ha, Iron Fist Brewing Company has really impressed me. Which brings us to beer number 37, The Gauntlet by Iron Fist.

Beer Number 36: Turned to the Light Side

I think we can officially call it. Now 36 weeks into this project and I find myself willingly grabbing bottles of IPAs. And not just any IPAs. I feel like I am looking for the “Imperials” and the “Doubles/Triples” whenever I grab one. After all this time of drinking stouts and shunning IPAs, I have changed.And this couldn’t be more apparent then when I grabbed beer number 36, The Maharaja from Avery Brewing Co.

Beer Number 35: Thanks for the Tip!

Over the course of this project, I’ve toyed around with a few different ideas on how to select beers. One of those ideas was to turn to the readers and hear what you think I should drink. While I never got around to posing the question, I did receive a suggestion on Facebook from a reader named John and I didn’t hesitate to give that beer a try. Which brings us to beer number 35, AleSmith Brewing Company‘s IPA.

Beer Number 31: When in Rome…

“…Yes. Do go on.” “Do as the Roman’s do. It’s an old expression.” “Oh! I’ve never heard of it.” Awesome Anchorman quotes aside, I found myself having to step out of my comfort zone for this week’s beer in a big way! With Khaos and I celebrating our nuptials on the beautiful island of Maui, I had few choices when it came to beer (but not tropical drinks!). So, I did as the Roman’s, er, Mauians? do and enjoyed beer number 31, Big Swell IPA from Maui Brewing Company…IN A CAN!

Beer Number 29: One More Week!

Here we are, one week away from Khaos’ and my wedding. With the upcoming nuptials less than seven days away, we were joined by her family to complete the final pieces of planning. With the entire family together on a beautiful summer Saturday, we barbecued! Joining my portion of the barbecue was beer number 29, Trestles India Pale Ale by Left Coast Brewing Co.
