Beer Number 51: Merry Christmas!

25 12 2011

Before I get into this week’s beer, I feel like I need to first comment on the fact that this will be the second-to-last beer for this project. I can’t believe we’re almost at the end. With that said, I want you all to know that this isn’t the end of this blog. I don’t want to get into too many details just yet, just know that I have plans for Fifty-Two Bottles in 2012.

But before we look too far into the future, let’s take a moment to relish in the present. Or should I say, presents? It is, after all, Christmas! When it came to presents this year, I played the role as one of “Santa’s” elves. For playing my role as an elf this year, I rewarded myself on Christmas Eve with beer number 51, Santa’s Little Helper by Port Brewing. Read the rest of this entry »

Beer Number 46: Like a Glove

20 11 2011

When life hits you the way it hit my family a few weeks ago, it really puts things into perspective. And the thing is, that perspective applies to everything. Even things that don’t seem to matter like the one bottle of beer one drinks for their blog. And it seems to be those minute details that make you realize some of the things you take for granted. To further delve into this thought, let me first introduce beer number 46, Velvet Glove by Iron Fist Brewing. Read the rest of this entry »

Beer Number 41: What a Day!

16 10 2011

Every now and then you hit a point at work where you think to yourself, “self, we need to get out of town and treat ourselves to something fun!” Then you think, not a bad idea., maybe I can wrangle up some friends and make a fun weekend of it. And then those plans all come together and you have that day. It was a fun day. But now it’s Sunday and you think to yourself, “self, that was a long day and I’m tired. You know I have to go to work tomorrow?”

That’s basically how this weekend went. Don’t worry, I’ll tell this story using some more description. And I would like to take a moment to point out (mainly to my friends who were with me) that I had an amazing time and it was all worth it. Since I have already teased part of the story, I will go ahead and jump to the end before starting from the beginning. The fun filled day ended with beer number 41, iStout by 8 Wired Brewing Company. Beer Number 33: Happy Birthday, Stone!

21 08 2011

Yesterday, Stone Brewing Company celebrated its 15th anniversary by throwing a huge celebration at its Escondido based brewery. I didn’t go. But that didn’t stop me from sharing the joy with those arrogant bastards over there. While it would have been super easy to enjoy their 15th anniversary beer (actually, it was hard. I couldn’t find a bottle) I decided to go in another direction. In honor of one of my favorite breweries, I enjoyed a bottle of my favorite beer from Stone. Which brings us to beer number 33, Imperial Russian Stout by Stone Brewing Company. Read the rest of this entry »

Beer Number 23: The Next Chapter

15 06 2011

So, we moved. It was a brutal weekend that took more trips than we anticipated but we survived. We are now enjoying our time in a house we are renting in Laguna Beach (more new backdrops!)  and I found it only fitting to end the first night with beer number 23, Lagunitas’ Imperial Stout. Beer Number 19: A Perfect Go-To Beer

15 05 2011

As I like to do, here is a short rant as to how I got to this week’s beer. First, let me preface by saying that in no way am I complaining about anything. With that said, I haven’t had a day off since May 1 and it’s now May 15. Why is this important? I guess it isn’t. But consider this, I drank my beer last night and I am just now getting around to writing about it nearly a whole day later.

While none of that is really all that important, it does lead me into why I bought this week’s beer. Having not had a day off in a fortnight, I needed a good, reliable, strong beer. So, as I perused the selection at Hi-Time I skipped over a handful of beers since I was avoiding the unknown. The last thing I needed was to discover a bad beer. I wasn’t in the mood. And then it became a no-brainer as my eyes became fixed on beer number 19, Speedway Stout by Alesmith Brewing Co. Read the rest of this entry »

Beer Number 16: We’ve Crossed State Lines

23 04 2011

Khaos and I loaded up the car and hit the road to spend the Easter weekend with family which means one thing; I would be drinking the first beer of this year-long project somewhere other than my apartment (as you can see from the picture above). It would also be the first beer outside the state of California as Fifty-Two Bottles returns to its birthplace, Arizona.

While the concept of this little project was thought up in Orange County, this site was built in Arizona and it was only a matter of time before a beer was featured from here. Which brings us to beer number 16, Outer Darkness by Squatters Pubs and Beers. Read the rest of this entry »
