My New Project, The Beerded Way

23 02 2013

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted here on Fifty-Two Bottles and I finally decided it was time to move on. My time here was amazing but ultimately this blog had an expiration date.

So now I present to you The Beerded Way. I’ve already had a few posts and feel really good about everything to come. It’s been all about beer so far, but I’m hoping to branch out into other topics as time goes on. We’ll see.

If you follow the new journey, thank you. If not, that’s ok. I would, however, like to take a quick moment to thank everyone that supported Fifty-Two Bottles. You all are amazing!

Hey! What happened to February?

3 03 2012

The thing I feared most happened. I no longer had deadlines to meet and I dropped the ball on writing posts. I won’t make any excuses. I failed my readers. Hopefully, I can get my act together and win back your love!

With that said, I’m hoping a little change in procedure will help me stay on top of keeping this little beauty updated. You see, the problem hasn’t been me not drinking beers. Oh, I’ve been drinking a lot of beers! Almost too many! Especially since I finished my half marathon and stopped training. I’m hoping that changes as well since I am back in training mode. But I’ll get back to that at another time.

Back to this whole “change of procedure” deal. I was lamenting to my beautiful wife one night about how I’ve stopped updating my blog and she suggested that I do shorter posts that are only about the beer. In other words, no more diatribes about my life and just get straight to the beer. Sure, I’ll try and sneak in a long-winded post about my life, because who are we kidding? That’s how I roll!

Another move I’m hoping to make is, unless it is a truly worthy beer that deserves top treatment, I’m going to start taking my pictures with my phone for faster uploads. You may never even notice considering the fact that my phone has an eight megapixel camera on it. I mean, it’s not the best in the world. But it ain’t half bad either!

So, I’m hoping you will all accept my deepest apologies and sit tight with me as I attempt to revive this fun little website. Hopefully we don’t miss an entire month again!

Beer on Tap. Oh, How I’ve Missed You

27 01 2012

The other night the wife and I headed out for an early dinner and some drinks. We drove down PCH to one of our favorite restaurants here in Laguna Beach, La Sirena Grill. If you aren’t familiar with La Sirena, you need to introduce yourself to this great, as they call themselves, MexECO restaurant. Kelli and I absolutely love this place and are so grateful to live smack dab in the middle of two locations.

What’s even better, is one of those two locations was recently remodeled from a pick-up counter with a few tables, to a much larger pick-up counter with several tables and a bar. But not just any bar. A beer snob’s type of bar. Unfortunately for me, and subsequently my wife, this transformation took place while I was still finishing up the Fifty-Two Bottles project. So, we were doomed to pick up food while drooling over the impressive selection they had on tap. Read the rest of this entry »

No More Rules, but the Beer Continues

14 01 2012

If you don’t know by now, I won’t be limiting myself to just one beer a week (thankfully!) nor will there be anymore numbered posts. Hopefully, you haven’t realized how long it’s taken me to write my first review of 2012. I’d love to sit here and make a long list of excuses, but that’s just not (always) my style.

With that said, part of the reason that I haven’t gotten around to this post is because I’m still working out details on the next chapter. Actually, I’m still trying to figure out what the next chapter is. Or if there even is a next chapter. But those details don’t really matter. One thing that I do know, is that there are a lot of beers out there (and a lot in my pantry) that I need to drink and then tell you about. Read the rest of this entry »

Fifty-Two Bottles, the Year that Was and the Year that Will Be

7 01 2012

What started as a simple New Year’s resolution turned into a year-long journey that evolved into more than just beer. I wasn’t sure which direction this project would take at the beginning, but I’m quite pleased with the outcome. Over the course of 52 weeks, 52 beers, I not only experienced some great beers but I also indirectly told the story of my life in 2011.

Let’s talk about the beer first. The 52 beers ranged several different types and, for the most part, were all quite enjoyable. I also varied my selections from some seasoned favorites to several that were completely unknown. The biggest development that occurred was my new-found love for IPAs. I entered this project with complete disdain for IPAs only to find myself now craving them. Read the rest of this entry »

1 01 2012

And just like that, surrounded by family and friends, I opened beer 52.

Thankfully there was no stress in choosing this week’s beer. There was no standing in the beer aisle scanning the shelves for the perfect beer for this special occasion. None of that happened this week because it all happened back in the first week of the year.

I took a trip to BevMo to pick up beer number one and decided that I should try to find the perfect beer for number 52. Even better, by buying it back in week one it allowed me to cellar and age the beer, making it even more special for the end of my new year’s resolution. Without further ado, I present to you beer number 52, La Fin du Monde from Unibroue. Read the rest of this entry »

Beer Number 51: Merry Christmas!

25 12 2011

Before I get into this week’s beer, I feel like I need to first comment on the fact that this will be the second-to-last beer for this project. I can’t believe we’re almost at the end. With that said, I want you all to know that this isn’t the end of this blog. I don’t want to get into too many details just yet, just know that I have plans for Fifty-Two Bottles in 2012.

But before we look too far into the future, let’s take a moment to relish in the present. Or should I say, presents? It is, after all, Christmas! When it came to presents this year, I played the role as one of “Santa’s” elves. For playing my role as an elf this year, I rewarded myself on Christmas Eve with beer number 51, Santa’s Little Helper by Port Brewing. Read the rest of this entry »
